Koloa is one of the communities that make up the south shore of Kauai.
Recreational activities include hiking, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, swimming, surfing, scuba diving, golf and more. Koloa is just minutes from Poipu Bay and Kiahuna golf courses, which are two of Hawaii's most beautiful golf courses. Sightseers can visit the Koloa Heritage Trail, beaches, art galleries and the incredible Waimea Canyon.
The first sugar plantation in Hawaii was founded in Koloa in 1835. The plantation was established here due to the overall fertility of the soil, proximity to a good port, and location near the Maulili pool which allowed the use of a waterfall for processing power.
